An organization that flies World War II veterans to see their memorial in Washington, D.C., is planning to salute thousands of veterans at Miller Park this summer.
Stars and Stripes Honor Flight offers free flights to aging veterans so they can see the memorials erected in their honor.
The group is planning a Milwaukee tribute Aug. 11 to veterans of World War II and other conflicts.
The event will feature World War II re-enactors, as well as a patriotic tribute to veterans and the screening of an Honor Flight documentary on the stadium's large screen.
Group chairman Joe Dean said organizers planned the event after realizing there's a pent-up desire in the community to honor these heroes.
Net proceeds will go toward funding future Honor Flights.
